The Value Of Failure At A Program Called Sangamon Ceo
All my life I have been taught that failure is to be avoided at all costs. To learn the value of failure, I had to join a program called Sangamon CEO. CEO is a hands on, innovative business class that takes up the first hour of every school day from 7:30 to 9:00 in the morning. CEO gives high school seniors a look at the business world by meeting with local CEOs in the Sangamon county area and working to start their own businesses by going through all of the same processes that someone would have to go through to start a business in the real world.. Students come up with an idea, judge the feasibility of the idea, pitch the idea to others, write a business plan and work to start the business. All my life I was taught that failure is anâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The project started with a discussion post where we listed ten problems and solutions. Then we came up with an idea and wrote a one-page pitch on the business of our choice. This was our first chance to fail without conseq uence. Nabih encouraged us to submit our pitches as many times as possible to him. He would then give us a grade along with feedback on how to improve. We kept making changes until the final submission was due. I failed on the first submission. I failed on the second submission. I failed on the third. I make a fair statement of saying that the rest of the class had the same outcomes for their pitches. With each submission I was missing the target. I did not have the right target market. I did not have the right pricing model or selling model. I did not explain the reason for my business well. Each piece of my pitch needed tweaks and revision to make it complete. I continued to craft and recraft my idea, making serious revisions so that my vision was well stated and clear. On the last day, with only a couple hours left before the final submission was due, I finally crafted what I wanted to say and it made sense. Nabih emailed me at 4:45 p.m. on October 14th to tell me what he thought of it, the final submission was due at 11:59 p.m.. He said ââ¬Å"Good work, it is complete. Submit for your final time.â⬠After weeks of stress, weeks of revision, and weeks

Human Resource Specialists And Position Management
The view of the job description differs depending on the groups and objectives needed to achieve set goal within the department or organization. Job description will describe the positionââ¬â¢s responsibilities, duties as well as minimum qualifications and education. ââ¬Å"Exactly how job descriptions are prepared and used is a complicated story that has it origins in the creation of civil service systems and merit system principles.â⬠(Borrego, 2012) Elected and appointed officials may consider positions management a necessity in order to control the magnitude and direction of the organizationââ¬â¢s staff when considering the quality of budget management and program evaluation, but most elected officials will only consider the job description and classification if they are considering ways to reduce the budget. Merit system reformers believe that they must consider analyzing, and classification of a position in order to achieve an effective and equity of a civil service system. They consider this as the stepping-stones for a responsive and professional public administration. Human Resource Specialists and position management positions think about recruiting, selection, pay equality and performance evaluation with considering a job description and classification. The job description and classification aids in recruiting so that must create a clear and accurate job description. This will help with the selection process by eliminating individuals that do not meet the minimum qualifications.Show MoreRelatedThe Field Of A Human Resource Generalist1236 Words à |à 5 PagesMy desired career is that of a human resource generalist. SMALL BUSINESS SHOULD BE EXEMPT FROM UNFAIR DISMISSAL LAWS Introduction In this context, the main aim of the topic is to focus on the policy debates regarding the protection from the unfair business laws in relation with the small business sectors. All Is Not Well In the Land of The Lion King essays
All Is Not Well In the Land of The Lion King essays All is Well in Land of The Lion King In the article, Alls Not Well in Land of The Lion King, by Margaret Lazarus, the author over exaggerates an animated classic, investigating as to whether or not the movie is politically correct and morally right. The essay examines and stereotypes the movie, and comes to various misguided conclusions. Lazarus defines the hyenas and the lion, Scar symbolic, and declares that Disney already has gays and blacks ruining the natural order. She also draws to the conclusion that Disney manipulates small childrens minds; encouraging them to believe that Only those born into privilege can bring about change (pg. 440) Lazarus is constantly searching for the underlying meaning throughout the movie, and fails to enjoy it. After a complete analysis of the movie she fails to understand the central idea of the movie. She then proceeds to mock the concept of a young heir to the crown to fighting and standing up for what is rightfully and morally his. She maintains that the movie The Lion King is a metaphor for our society, suggesting that the nation only supports the concept that only the strong do survive in the world. So often a carefree animated tale is scrutinized and psychoanalyzed, and the pureness and innocence are stripped away from it. I fully disagree with Lazarus. The Lion King, was a wonderful, original animation that, broke the Disney stereotyped classics, of a hero that saves a beautiful girl in distress. The Lion King, features a story of doing the right thing, learning to fight for what is right, to stand up for yourself and what you believe in. The Lion King, is an animation, to over analyze in such a fashion as Margaret Lazarus does, is ridiculous and a shame. Lazarus is seeking too much meaning out of this simple tale. The cartoons main purpose is to entertain, not to set all the th...

mafia essays
mafia essays Over the past month, as I have been going to work with Sgt. Blake Gilmore, there has been much talk about organized crime ever since the second in charge, the underboss, Al Bruno was shot. It was a big story and every time I go into his office, something new is said about the case even though it was handed over to the FBI. In light of this, I have decided to write about the history and development of organized crime. It has always been of interest to me and it hits home in some ways because of my Italian decent. Throughout history, crime has existed in many different forms and has been committed by not only individuals, but by groups as well. Crime is something that knows no boundaries; it exists in all cultures, is committed by all races, and has existed in all time periods. Crime exists as a part of the economic institution and is a lifestyle for many people. Crime also exists in both organized and unorganized forms. Since the early 1900's, "organized" crime has existed in the United States. The origin of the word mafia is a bit of a mystery. Some say that it is derived from an Arabic word for refuge, while others say that it is derived from a Sicilian adjective implying courage, strength, agility, quickness, endurance, and intelligence. Another thought came from a book called Bloodletters and Badmen : A Narrative Encyclopedia of American Criminals from the Pilgrims to the Present. This said that the word mafia was an acronym for Morte Alla Franciese Italia Annella, which meant Death to the French is Italy's Cry. The Italian Mafia or the La Cosa Nostra, as it is referred to today, started in Sicily, the little island that the mainland seems to be giving the boot to. It was during the time between the 18th century and the 19th century that there were constant fights between the French and the Spanish for the thrones of Naples and Sicily and it switched hands many times. When it finally came to rest with the instatement...

Discrimination Against Chinese Indonesian Research Paper
Discrimination Against Chinese Indonesian - Research Paper Example Native Indonesians have been discriminating Chinese locals until today. However, efforts have been made to eliminate racism now. According to ââ¬Å"dictionary.comâ⬠, the definition of racism is defined as a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that oneââ¬â¢s own race is superior and has the right to rule others. Jealousy and pride are possible causes of the discrimination towards Chinese-Indonesians, although a democratic-based philosophical principles ââ¬ËPancasilaââ¬â¢ is being implemented to every Indonesian (Chang 155). Chinese Indonesians have been discriminated against in Indonesia, and this should not happen. Discrimination from native Indonesians to Chinese Indonesians was and sometimes is still obvious, because although Chinese Indonesians are the minority, they dominate vital business and play a vital role in the countryââ¬â¢s economy. Phillip She non, author of The Gazette, states that ââ¬Å"The success of the Chinese is widely envied - and resented - in Indonesia, an archipelago of 180 million people and the fourth most populous nation on earth. The average annual per capita income is about $600â⬠(ProQuest). Jealousy arises as native people tend to be low-classed workers, while Chinese Indonesians are marked as a ââ¬Ëhigh-classedââ¬â¢ society. ... In fact, Chinese Indonesians have become the target of crime in Indonesia, because many native Indonesians have envied their success in financial, education, etc. Unlike in the United States and South Africa where racism is seen to manifest itself in terms of color, racism in Indonesia has gone beyond and has given rise to human right violations in the social, economic, political, legal, and cultural spheres of the society (Chang 152). The policy of ââ¬Å"divide and ruleâ⬠which was endorsed by colonial rulers aimed at distorting peaceful coexistence of native Indonesians and Chinese Indonesians. In fact, this policy was later advanced by government led by Sukarno whereby legislation was passed by the government which prohibited Chinese from conducting business in the country side (Chang 153). In 1998, there was anti-Chinese Indonesians violence in some cities, including Solo. I was 4 years old at that time, and I didnââ¬â¢t really understand anything. Apparently, the Asian financial crisis in May 1998 caused political turmoil in Indonesia; this led to anti-Chinese Indonesians riots. Greg Barton, author of Abdurrahman Wahid: Muslim Democrat, Indonesian President, clarifies that ââ¬Å"Further adding to this uncertainty was an outbreak of sudden episodes of violence in small towns in Central and East Java, mostly directed against the ethnic Chineseâ⬠(Barton 233). My whole family escaped to a safer place in Semarang. As Medy Loekito asserts in her poem titledââ¬Å"14 May 1998â⬠, the riot was traumatizing and terrible, many cars were burnt on streets, and many Chinese Indonesiansââ¬â¢ houses were burnt and destroyed as well. The television was showing how a mountain of men screamed and cried as they were losing their loved ones, their valuable properties,
